India is the 3rd largest consumer of oil in the world and to meet this demand it have to import 85% of crude oil and 34% of natural gas from other countries. Iran is our third biggest supplier of oil. But now, the US wants us to stop importing oil from Iran. And it’s not just us, it also does not want 7 other countries, which includes China, Japan and South Korea, to import oil from it. Needless to say that this can have a major impact on the economy of these countries, especially ours. But USA says that this is all because they want to punish Iran. In this episode, we will be looking at why exactly does it want to do that, what would happen if India continues to import oil from Iran and what other options can India look at. Shubhajit Roy, who reports on foreign affairs for the Indian Express, explains this.
