The IMD forecast light to moderate rain till Friday in the city, or anything between 2.5 mm to 64.4 mm of rainfall. In Thane and Raigad, an orange alert warned about heavy to very heavy rain. “Due to the strengthening of monsoon currents and formation of a low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal and feeble off-shore trough runs from south Gujarat coast to north Kerala coast, rainfall activity was active and is very likely to continue over the west coast and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the next three to four days,” an IMD official said. A school holiday was declared on Monday, but from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm the rainfall at Colaba was only 2.8 mm and at Santacruz, 2 mm.
