BHOPAL: Bhopal MP Pragya Singh Thakur triggered yet another controversy on Sunday when she told a gathering of party workers that she hasn’t been elected to “clean gutters and toilets”. Pragya’s statement is being viewed in contrast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ Swachh Bharat campaign to encourage public cleanliness. The state Congress has termed Pragya a “mockery of the democracy”. “Hum nali saaf karwane ke liye nahi bane…theek hai na…hum aapka shauchalaya saaf karne ke liye bilkul bhi nahi banaye gaye hain…hum jis kaam ke liye banaye gaye hain vo kaam hum imandari se karenge…ye hamara pehle bhi kahna hai, aaj bhi kehna hai…karna hai aur aage bhi karenge. (I have not been made (elected MP) to clear the gutter, all right. I have not been made (MP) at all to clean your toilet. The work for which I have been made, I will do with all honesty. I have been saying this, I’m saying it today, and I will keep saying it),” Pragya said at a meeting of party workers in Sehore district, who were asking for development and civil works. ‘Will be honest towards my real duties’A video of Pragya’s remark went viral. BJP leaders refused to react to her statement. Former Bhopal MP Alok Sanjar, who had actively promoted Swachhta campaign during his tenure, refused to comment. “I am not aware of what Pragya ji has said. I cannot comment on her statement,” Sanjar told TOI. The Congress pointed out that BJP had not taken any action against her for the controversial statements made during Lok Sabha election despite the PM’s stern remarks. “It was a mockery of democracy that a person like her (Pragya) entered Parliament. The person who abuses Gandhi ji and glorified Godse has no business in Parliament,” said Congress state media in-charge Shobha Oza. During the Lok Sabha election, Pragya – an accused in the Malegaon blast – had triggered one controversy after another, first saying that 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare was killed by Pakistani terrorists after she cursed him, then boasting that she was proud of razing Babri Masjid, and calling Nathuram Godse a “deshbhakt”.
