JAMMU: A soldier was killed in a ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in Sunderbani sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. This is the third ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the last three days. Official sources said Rifleman Md Atif Shafi Alam Khan Pathan, while manning a forward post, was critically injured in the Pakistani firing in Keri Battal of Sunderbani sector. He was rushed to a military hospital, where he succumbed to injuries, sources said. Pathan was originally from Nawayard village in Gujarat’s Vadodra district. He is survived by his parents. Official sources said the cross-border firing started around 6.30am and continued intermittently for several hours, causing panic among the border residents who have been advised to take necessary precautionary measures for their safety. “Today during early morning hours, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation with firing of small arms and shelling with mortars along the LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district,” said Jammu-based Army spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand. This was the third ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the last three days. Pakistan had violated the ceasefire in Poonch district on July 20 and had resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts on July 21.
